Abstract

Continuous-wave Doppler sonography of the carotid and vertebral arteries is a screening method. A subtle examination of these arteries is possible by duplex scanning and color-coded duplex scanning. For the examination of the intracranial vascular system, transcranial Doppler sonography and transcranial color-coded real-time sonography with various function tests are available. Advantages, accuracy and pitfalls are discussed.
